At the end of each year, The Spinoff produces a written overview of the past 12 months, detailing important moments that the media organisation had experienced, and providing key statistics about the work produced and the audiences reached. In December 2021 Lauren Maree Stewart and I worked to develop the imagery to go with the article. Graphic elements such as shapes and colours were pulled from the new Spinoff visual branding, which had been unveiled a few months prior. These were combined with mixed media artwork which incorporated illustration, photography, podcast art etc. to match the mixed media art style that is central to The Spinoff’s brand.
A hero artwork was also produced which featured a passing of the editorial baton from former editor Toby Manhire to current editor Mad Chapman, surrounded by illustrations representing the year's worth of Spinoff articles.
The process for producing the artworks started with all frame-by-frame elements being hand drawn on iPad using Procreate. These were exported and laid up with graphics in Photoshop and Illustrator. The files were then handed off to be animated and exported. A total of 19 Images were produced, with varying levels of illustration and animation.
